Welcome to your August edition of Thinklocal! I hope you’re soaking up what has been an absolutely brilliant, if not too hot, summer so far.
We have a packed issue for you this month, heavily leaning into the local sporting scene. Over on our Think Sport page, we’re catching up with the team at Huntingdonshire Fencing, while St Neots Rugby Club fills us in on their latest club updates. If you're looking for a brilliant day out, Eynesbury Rovers is hosting their second annual Party on the Pitch on Saturday 2nd August, and St Neots Town Football Club is gearing up for the new season with fresh fixtures and opportunities to get involved.
Of course, the big one is just around the corner: the spectacular St Neots Charity Dragon Boat Race returns on Saturday 15th August (10:00am – 5:00pm). If you’ve never been down to watch, it draws thousands of people, and the atmosphere is always electric—highly recommended!
With the school holidays in full swing, you might be hunting for ways to keep everyone entertained. Flick over to our What’s On section (pages 36–41) for a dose of inspiration. A few highlights to put on your radar include All Aboard Boating (page 15), Jordans Mill (page 9), and the Little Paxton Adventure Day on Saturday 29th August (page 62). Air show fans won't want to miss the Little Gransden Air Show on Sunday 30th August either (see page 41 for details).
On a more serious note, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue have released a powerful new film highlighting the very real dangers of open water. Please do take a moment to read about it on page 56; it’s an incredibly important message that could save a life.
On a brighter note, we’re looking back at some wonderful memories from this year's Armed Forces Day. The weather truly looked after us, and you can see a gallery of the weekend’s best pictures on pages 28 and 29.
Finally, I’d love to welcome some new and returning faces to our pages. A warm welcome to Willow Fenn Counselling and M & C Travel, and a big "welcome back" to Brilliant Finish interior & exterior decorating and BW Bookkeeping and project solutions. We also feature the stunning watercolor works of Mike Gorham, who is hosting an art exhibition at Brook House on 12th September (more details on pages 10 and 11).
