VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering by definition is offering to do something of your own accord, with no payment at the end – this is why I started to take part in Girlguiding, specifically the Brownies section.

I started the journey, when I prematurely left school due to the pandemic – I wanted to see myself doing something good for the community but also benefiting my own mental health.

I really enjoyed taking part in the zoom sessions and wanted to further understand the new Girlguiding programme and the part I play within it. Therefore, I said my promise and started my leadership qualification with the local 5th Eaton Socon Brownie Unit, on my 19th birthday.
My main goal, as being part of the leadership team, is to empower girls and encourage them to feel that they are unstoppable. I also really enjoy making the activities and learning we do in the section reflect the people in our community.

BENEFITS

Here are some benefits of volunteering – reasons why I love Brownies:

  • Meet like-minded people – being part of a different community
  • Gain confidence for girls and myself

I love the feeling that I am making an impact and changing the lives of the future generations.

  • Making a difference
  • Learning new skills through challenging myself

in summary I mostly love being the Barn owl to the 5th Eaton Socon Pack as I help girls realise their full potential and share unforgettable moments along the way.
