URBAN SKETCHERS IN ST NEOTS

You may have spotted groups of people with sketchbooks and art materials scattered around town lately and wondered what is happening. Maybe you thought: ‘that looks like a lovely relaxing way to spend an afternoon.’? Well, the Neotists and Makings & Musings have collectively started the Urban Sketchers St Neots and are inviting anyone who is sketch-curious to join in!

Richard Slade, founder of the St Neots creative collective Neotists, and Irene Ruby, art teacher at Makings & Musings are both sketch enthusiasts and they want to bring this fantastic and fun craft to our beautiful town.

“When you are sketching, you see your surroundings with a fresh perspective”, Irene says.

Richard adds: “Whether you are a budding hobbyist or a professional artist, everyone is welcome. We meet at a set location, give you a brief and set you off with your chosen materials”.

WHAT IS URBAN SKETCHING?

Urban sketching is a worldwide movement that encourages artists of all abilities to come together and sketch buildings, streets or activities. The materials used are accessible and often found in most households. The only real rule is to find a safe spot to sit out of the way of traffic, and enjoy. Everything else is up to the artist.

Who can join in?: The events are free and all abilities are welcomed, you do not need any prior drawing experience. We are a lovely bunch of creative people and happy to support new artists!

What do I need? You will need to bring your own materials. You can start with just a pen or pencil and paper.
