MAGPAS – Your local lifesaving charity
Magpas Air Ambulance, based in Alconbury Weald, Cambridgeshire, is a lifesaving charity that responds to emergencies across the East of England.
The critical care doctors and paramedics are specially trained in pre-hospital emergency medicine and carry advanced equipment and drugs. This means the Magpas Air Ambulance team can provide treatments and procedures that are usually only available in a hospital at the scene of an incident.
Due to the level of care Magpas Air Ambulance provides, the charity is only called to the most critically ill and injured patients. Patients like Alice, from Godmanchester…
At 18, everything changed for Alice when she suffered a respiratory arrest at home one night.
Magpas Air Ambulance was called and performed procedures to try to stabilise her condition, including making a small incision in the side of Alice’s chest. It was then, thanks to the team’s expert knowledge, they recognised that something was seriously wrong.
It transpired Alice had a tumour in her chest cavity that had grown so big it blocked her airway and crushed her lung.
Magpas Air Ambulance took Alice to hospital and, following emergency surgery, she spent the next few months completing cancer treatment for the Lymphoma.
Alice’s dad, James, says,
“As a result of the brilliant work these medics did, Alice is not only alive, she’s recovered and doing really well. We’re very lucky to have this incredible service on our doorstep.”
